About

Hi, I'm Jacob.

For most of my life I knew about God's love without letting it reach the places in me that were wounded. This blog is where I have been working that out, slowly and honestly, in writing, since 2007.

My Articulate Heart is about one question: who am I, really, in Christ, and how does He heal what was broken?

What I write about

  • Healing: naming our hidden wounds and letting grace reach them.
  • Identity in Christ: living as a beloved son or daughter of God, not as our shame tells us we are.
  • Prayer: moving from talking at God to resting in Him.
  • Marriage & family: how our wounds and our healing shape the people closest to us.
  • Faith & the mind: where Catholic teaching meets what we are learning about emotions and the brain.

Who I am

I am not a priest or a therapist. I am a husband, a father of four, a designer by background, and someone who works in Catholic media. I write as a fellow traveller, not an expert, sharing what I have found in Scripture, the teaching of the Church, and my own life, in the hope that it helps you find it too.

“He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds.” (Psalm 147:3)

Where to begin

If you are new here, the Start Here page gathers the best reflections in the order I would read them. A good first post is What If You Are Wounded and Don't Know It?

To receive new reflections by email, use the Get new reflections by email box at the bottom of this page.

Thank you for reading. I would love to hear from you in the comments.
