Yoked to Jesus

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” †  Mathew 11: 28-30  What is the labour and burden that Jesus is asking me to deal with? Perhaps I have to let go of the compulsive burden (or is it a sort of entitlement?) that my spouse and children should choose a spiritual path that I know to be right. Jesus accompanied Judas Iscariot to the very end but never deprived him of his freedom to choose his own destiny. Jesus on the other hand, uninterrupted by Judas's choice to reject him, continues to accomplish his mission. He does become a victim of Judas's betrayal but he seldom takes on the victim's identity. In divine wisdom, Jesus chooses to die in our place (and that of Judas) in a redeeming act of love. Rather than being compelled to fix those whom God has entrusted to my headship by m

Is it 50/50?

"In order to be successful, we should do our 50% and God will put in his 50%". This is the saying that we have been hearing as we grew up. But is this the formula to be successful? I do not think so.

No body can be successful unless he puts in his 100% and still stretch beyond to an extend that is otherwise not possible. This is not being workaholic but far from it. This is all about aspiring to be what God has created us to be.

How can I do it? First step is to have an ardent desire to know the Truth about everything. Questions you must ask yourself are; why am I here on earth? who put me here? what is my purpose? where I'm going when I die? why do I die at all?. Turn to God for an answer, turn to the scriptures, turn to the teachings of the church. Look up the YOUCAT [Youth Catechism] or CCC [Catechism of the Catholic Church]. Ask the right people. Go to the Blessed Sacrament and ask Jesus these questions and he will guide you to the right resources or whisper in your ears.

We come to know that we are here because our father in heaven loves us beyond our comprehension and our being here has a specific purpose. We come to know that nothing makes sense without God and in the light of God, his love, creation, Jesus, Holy Spirit, salvation, eternity, my mission of on earth, everything connects well and it all begin to make perfect sense.

We understand that the cause of all evil in the world and all human misery is sin. We identify that our mission is to "love like God". Jesus offers us a perfect model and He is the way. To live not according to my sinful nature and aspiring to live up to the capacity God has made possible for me through Jesus, becomes my life's blood and purpose.

The next step is to identify my specific call/mission on earth. This is task is not difficult yet not so easy. It is not difficult because if we observe ourselves, we will know it. It is not easy because our human nature is to  look around and see what is more lucrative. We need to forget how others are making "money" when we discern our mission. Money should not be in the agenda at all here. It is clearly our fathers delight to provide for us when we do what He wants us to do.

When we hear the word "mission" at least for few of us it sounds like a full time preaching mission or social work. Mission means the specif contribution I as an individual is capable of accomplishing in order for the betterment of my fellow men and the world at large. Fulfilling my mission is precisely how I will glorify my  heavenly father and make Him happy. My mission will be accompanied by the Grace of God, an uncanny ability and the necessary talents. The fullness of my mission can be achieved only if I partner with God, who ordained this mission in the first place.

Once we have identified our mission, we must trust in God and persevere tirelessly. We make progress little by little never loosing hope. The enemy would not want us to do Gods will and will device ways and means to thwart every progress we make. But we know that this enemy is a defeated enemy and through Jesus Christ we have authority over him and his deeds.

We make progress professionally and spiritually contributing to our own greater holiness and to the benefit of others. We solve problems for others relying solely on the wisdom and ability of God and not ours. Our success is measured not proportional to the amount of money we make but how well we are full-filling our mission and how pleasing it is to our Father in heaven.

Give your 100% and stretch further and God will to give us his immeasurable Grace to accomplish the mission. Choose to be different and start today.
