Jesus Is Preparing a Place for You
There are words of Jesus that comfort us… and then there are words that quietly reveal everything. This is one of them: “In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be.” (John 14:2–3) At first glance, it sounds simple. Almost like Jesus is describing heaven as a place with many rooms, lovingly prepared for us. But the Church has never read this passage in such a shallow way. What Jesus is speaking about here is not architecture. It is communion . It is transformation . It is love that desires union . The Father’s House Is Not a Place When Jesus speaks of “my Father’s house,” He is not pointing to a distant location.
