The Freedom to Be Powerless

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10 There is a quiet battle that many of us fight every day. We don't always notice it because it disguises itself as responsibility, planning, efficiency, perfectionism, or simply "being prepared." But beneath all these lies a deep longing to stay in control. I know this battle well. Sometimes I tell myself that if I can think hard enough, prepare well enough, or anticipate every possible outcome, I will finally feel safe. Yet the harder I try to control life, the more anxious I become. My body remains tense. My mind keeps rehearsing tomorrow's problems. Even when nothing is wrong, I struggle to rest. Perhaps that is because I am trying to carry something I was never meant to carry.
